The Newlyn Reservoir (near Ballarat) was exhibiting deterioration of the construction and expansion joints. The joints were filled with a asbestos impregnated mastic material that was extruding from the joints and there was substantial damage to the concrete resulting in breakouts (spalling) along the joints.

Additionally some minor areas of poorly compacted concrete at the base of the training walls required remediation. To assist in drainage of the dissipator basin, five (5) additional holes were cored in the downstream facia.

After extensive cutting and preparation of the joints was completed an approved asbestos removal contractor removed all asbestos material from the joints and site.

The joints were then routed and cleaned and where required the integrity of the joint dimensions and shape was reinstated with Xypex Patch'n Plug.
The BASF Sonulastic Ultra sealant system was then employed to refurbish in excess of 320 meters of joints.
